This song is about a dystopian science fiction novel titled, "Nineteen Eighty-Four" published by George Orwell in 1949. The Novel is about about the totalitarian regime of the Party and happens to be one of my favorite books. These lyrics by Muse really describe the relationship the main protagonist, Winston Smith, had with Julia. The Party was trying to destroy all human emotion in society including love. WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY, and IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH is the three slogans of Big Brother their main political leader. "LOVE IS RESISTANCE" is certainly another slogan that would fit. I love bands that recognize the meaning of literature and write lyrics about it.
